First-in-class therapeutics targeting WASp protein for oncology
Problem
Despite the changing therapeutic paradigm in hematological cancers, a clear gap for novel small molecule targeted agents exists. Specifically for aggressive malignancies such as mantle cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and acute myeloid leukemia, the relapse rates are very high (~50%) and there is a deficit of therapeutics with novel mechanisms of action.
Solution
BIMINI Biotech is developing small molecule modulators of Wiskott Aldrich syndrome protein (WASp), a novel target in lymphomas and leukemias. The startup has first-in-class functional antagonists and agonists of WASp, that have the potential to deliver solid efficacy in the relapsed/refractory setting.
Core technology
BIMINI Biotech has two therapeutic pipelines that build on leads BM011 and BM-AN013, that act as functional agonist and antagonist of WASp respectively. Both show promising anti-cancer activity and will be developed for different indications:
- BM011 - Mantle cell lymphoma, diffuse large B cell lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma
- BM-AN013 - Burkitt lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia
