Team

The USI Startup Centre team is currently composed of five people with complementary backgrounds and experience.

Anastasia Bedova

Anastasia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and a Master’s degree in Management from Università della Svizzera italiana. Before joining the USI Startup Centre team, she worked for the Swiss Finance + Technology Association, where she focused on building the FinTech ecosystem in Switzerland, and for GoBeyond, where she was in charge of marketing and communications. At USI Startup Centre Anastasia takes care of community building, internal and external communication, event management and supports startups in the areas of communication and marketing.

Umberto Bondi received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and, after previous experience in the indusry as Product Manager, he obtained an Executive Master in Information Technology (Electronic Design Automation Area) from CEFRIEL (Politecnico di Milano, Italy) in 1999. From 2000 to 2017, he has been the Program Manager of the ALaRI institute (embedded systems design) at the Faculty of Informatics at USI Università della Svizzera italiana. He has authored or co-authored a number of papers and a patent in field of embedded systems. From 2007 to 2012, he was Technology Transfer consultant for USI. He actively participated in a number of national and international projects, also as project or work-package co-ordinator. Since March 2004, he belongs to the managing staff of USI Startup Centre (formerly CP Start-up USI). Since 2014, he is member of the organization team of StartCup Ticino and, since 2018, of BoldBrain Startup Challenge

Francesco Lurati

Francesco Lurati is a professor of Corporate Communication at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of USI Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. He pursues research in the field of Corporate Communication, in particular, in the areas of Organizational Identity and Corporate Reputation. He has published in the Journal of Business Research, Strategic Organization, Corporate Reputation Review, Corporate Communications: an International Journal, International Journal of Strategic Communication and Journal of Public Relations Research. He is the academic director of the MSc program in Corporate Communication at USI. Trained as an economist, he earned his PhD from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He has also held positions in the public and private sectors, and regularly does consulting in the field of Communication Management.

Francesco Meli

Francesco Meli completed his academic studies at the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC, University of Lausanne), where he obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Management. During his studies he specialised in entrepreneurship and innovation management. He has worked at SUPSI on innovation management, business and entrepreneurship. He is passionate about startups and the energy that comes from the startup environment. He collaborates with a number of startups. At USI Startup Centre he deals with the management of the Service unit by supporting startups and organising training and events.

Samuele Morales

Samuele holds a Master’s degree in Economics and International Politics from Università della Svizzera italiana and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He previously worked on technological innovation projects for the Israeli Ministry of Economy, fostering commercial relations between Israeli and Italian companies in the green-tech sector. In addition, Samuele has experience with a wide range of technology transfer-related activities thanks to his collaboration with leading Italian research institutions for applied technologies (Bruno Kessler Foundation, University of Trento). Alongside his role at USI Startup Centre, Samuele collaborates with the Italian Institute of Technology, where he supports life science startups and competitive-funded technological projects. Samuele specialises in technology transfer, innovation processes, and innovative ecosystems. His areas of expertise include life-tech, industry 4.0, and space technologies. At USI Startup Centre Samuele manages the incubation process and coordinates team activities to enhance the support provided to pre-incubated and incubated startups.

Tiziana Rosa

Tiziana holds a PharmD from the University of Padua (Italy) and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Cambridge (UK). She went on receiving an Executive Master in Management of Research, Innovation and Technology from POLIMI Graduate School of Management (Italy) and has since then worked in innovation management and business development within the Swiss startup scene. She started off as Innovation Project Manager at Gain Therapeutics, a biotech company developing treatments for protein misfolding diseases and then moved on to GenomSys, a medtech company developing software solutions for genomic data processing and analysis, as Chief Innovation and Partnership Officer. Today, Tiziana splits her time between the USI Startup Centre, where she coaches and strategically supports startups in the life sciences sector and the Swiss Biotech Association, where she focuses on building and leveraging international relations to benefit the Swiss life sciences ecosystem.
